A-Z The Adventures of Katie Button - R

Continuing my A-Z series on The Adventures of Katie Button, my first romance/chicklit novel published through Crooked Cat. Taking a little break from the second draft of the sequel to explore a little bit more about Katie Button. Just the one letter today as there’s so much to write for R.

From the sequel, love this quote.

Red Communications

This is where all the troubles started for Katie. She loves her job but doesn’t set the world alight and goes unnoticed at Blackwell Creative, a mediocre branding company. But enter the Mastersons. Blackwell is taken over by Red owned by the Mastersons; brothers Jack and James and their father John Sr. At the same time, Katie starts having vivid dreams about James who she hasn’t had the pleasure of meeting until an awkward encounter in the boardroom. Red is the setting for a few office shenanigans, bitter quarrels, a bit of backstabbing and plenty of coffee. Just another day at the office; ‘reminded me of my days working alongside advertising execs!’ said a kind reader/reviewer.

Regression / Reincarnation
To try and make sense of the dreams, Katie undergoes regression. Through hypnosis, Katie revisits  past lives, discussing them with Peter who helps Katie make sense of the dreams and find the purpose of  them. The regressions are tough and emotional (brownies are a must afterwards) as they reveal painful truths, sometimes violent but always tragic.

The soul is reincarnated until it finishes its purpose on this Earth. I find this rather romantic as our souls have a destiny and do not rest until they meet their destiny, their soul mate on their journey- no matter how long it takes.

From a friend's wedding. Too cute

Receipts
The one thing that spoils a good shopping trip. The things that are left screwed up in the bottom of the bag. The things that remind Katie of the money she doesn’t have that she just spent on boots. But she really needs the boots. Honest.

Robbie Williams

Who doesn’t love Robbie!!!! (The exclamation marks are a giveaway that I actually love him). The clamour for tickets for one of his gigs is a pressurised, stressful few hours. But time well spent if successful (even if it is during work time). Katie doesn’t want to miss seeing Robbie at the O2 with her bestie, Alana. But there’s more to Robbie than a gig as Katie finds out . . .

The day I met Robbie Williams!!!!!! EEEKKKKK

Rogue
Back to the highwayman. The sexy, wicked rogue of Katie’s dreams. There’s also a rogue in the real world, in Katie’s life who is just as sexy. But rogues aren’t for keeps as Katie finds out.

Reviews
That nerve racking moment when a review comes in. The Adventures of Katie has 22 reviews now including 18 five stars!!! (Amazon UK) and three reviews over on Amazon US. I’m over the moon at the positive comments and love for Katie Button. I can’t emphasise how important reviews are for an Indie author (good ones lol). Whether it’s a paragraph or two words, your review means the world and is truly appreciated.

Don't Be Shy

Shyness isn't something people could accuse me of but when it comes to my debut novel The Adventures of Katie Button, I could have done that little bit more. So, here are some of the reviews I have received from wonderful readers. I have 17 in total which is amazing!

Katie Button is on offer right now, 99p/ 99c Amazon UK Amazon US if you fancy a little giggle with 'quirky and kooky' Katie.

Reviewer: Leah

I received a review copy

the adventures of katie buttonReview:

In The Adventures of Katie Button, Katie Button is your average person. She likes concerts, chocolate, watching T.V., and shopping. She and her best friend work at a marketing firm, where they have the supervisor from Hell that dislikes her. The thing that isn’t average about her, is that she is having these extremely vivid dreams. In all of her intense dreams, she is involved with this hunky man James, but they are sadly parted. Her dreams take place from all reaches of time and sometimes in different languages. Katie doesn’t think much of it, that is until she discovers that one of her new bosses is a dead ringer for her dream man, and they even share the same name. Unfortunately, “reality” James isn’t much interested in her or nearly as charming; while his older brother Jack seems more her type. When the dreams won’t stop, and threaten to be a problem at work and in her new relationship with Jack, she seeks help and discovers that these realistic dreams are more than she ever imagined. These dreams are fragments of her memories from her past lives, as she and James are soul mates. Now she has to try and reunite them, while at the same time excel at her job and keep her evil overlord supervisor from firing her.
I am not one that is interested in paranormal tales, reincarnation, or anything of that semblance, but I extremely enjoyed this tale. And the main reason for why I had trouble putting this book down? Katie Button. Katie Button was an all-around fun character who the reader could relate to. Katie was just a regular girl who could be awkward at times, didn’t always make the best decisions, and was more at home watching Diagnosis Murder marathons than clubbing or partying. Her wit, compassion, and all around character are a lot of fun and incredibly endearing. I could have just read about her everyday life without the dreams and past lives, and had been just as entertained. I thought it was a great read and give it a four out of five stars.

And if you like what readers have said, here's that all important blurb:

Blurb
What happens when your dreams collide with reality?

Katie Button doesn’t believe in soulmates. When charismatic Jack Masterson asks her out on a date, despite him being her new boss alongside his more aloof brother, James, she agrees.

But her romantic dreams about a dashing highwayman, heroic gladiator and Tudor lord are becoming more frequent. And, worryingly, they feel real. She remembers every detail, every touch, every kiss. Until she realises the man in her dreams is James.

But Katie doesn’t even like James. And what about Jack, who is whisking her away for sexy mini breaks in the here and now?

Katie knows she needs to put an end to her dreams before they ruin her life. But how?

A To Z of Katie Button Part One

A to C

Phew. It’s been an amazing two months since The Adventures of Katie Button was released through Crooked Cat PublishingTwo months of fab reviews and comments.

I thought I’d share a few titbits about Katie Button and her world by doing an A-Z, after getting the idea from Laura Huntly, author of Black Eyed Boyalso released through Crooked Cat.

So here goes . . . at least the beginning is easy . . . not looking forward to X! Hopefully something will crop up.
                                                              A
Alana
In Three words: Confident. Honest. Loyal.
Katie’s best friend and work colleague. Alana affectionately calls Katie ‘Sweets’ and supplies the morning coffees and pastries. She dresses for the job she wants and is not afraid to go for it. Although not a major character, without Alana in the background, being there with a cheeky mojito, Katie’s life would be in danger of imploding spectacularly.

B
Boots & Brownies
I couldn’t choose! Both are an important part of Katie’s life.
Boots
Katie is a shoeaholic and a pair of purple suede boots are her latest buy and favourite pair. Buying them wasn’t easy. The results in wearing them were unexpected too.
Brownies
The most deliciously moist, fudgy, chewy brownies Katie has ever tasted. Homemade by Peter, a guy she meets after experiencing some rather emotional dreams. A brownie or two or five always make the situation better.

C
Chocolate

This list seems to be food related. Chocolate is very important to a girl and Katie is no exception. Not only does she love chocolate, she ends up working with it in her role at Red Communications, a branding company. She can often be found chomping her way through bars of Galaxy or Cadbury as she sits at her desk. Table picnics are a common occurrence for Katie.

And that's it for now. Hope that's whetted your appetite for The Adventures of Katie Button, a quirky little chicklit.

Week #1 on Being a Published Author

Follow that bus! Via Photofunia app

A week ago yesterday, my debut novel was released by my publisher, Crooked Cat (I still squeal inside saying that). Since then, the week has been A-ma- zing as Craig Revel Horwood would say. And I think Katie Button is becoming a success and here's why . . .

Blink and you'll miss it. #90 ranking
The Adventures of Katie Button is holding its own in the Amazon Kindle charts and as a romance/chick-lit it’s she’s in a tough but very popular category which makes its her progress even more amazing. At one point, a very small point, a blink and you’ll miss it point, Katie Button made #90 in the top 100 in the Literary humour category. (Yes, I did capture that moment!)

Viv and Ralf of Gogglebox fame
I am still, after a week, totally overwhelmed by the sheer volume of praise, comments and shares Katie Button has received. I’ve even had a celebrity tweet one of my tweets! Well, if you’re British and watch Gogglebox then you may be familiar with Viv and Ralf who share the sofa with their daughter Eve and Silent Jay (who sadly, doesn’t take part anymore- did he really take part if he was silent?). I digress. They tweeted my tweet!! That was just too exciting! I think they love Adam Ant. But if it works . . .

The reviews are trickling in and they’re worth the wait. There’s even a review on Amazon US where the lovely person reviewing hasn’t even finished the book yet but felt it deserved an immediate review; a fantastic review at that.

A few of the quotes from reviews on Amazon UK

Notting Hill ad via Photofunia
I’ve been lucky enough to feature on blogs in the run up and during this first manic week. I love talking about Katie Button and the inspiration for her. It’s also meant a fair bit of shares to various social media links. I seem to be spending a fair bit of time finding new ways to get Katie Button out there. My favourite at the moment is a photo app called Photofunia where you can upload your photo to some fun backgrounds. I love the London ones which is the setting for Katie Button. They seem to generate a bit of interest. And because of this, I post more. Sometimes, it feels like I’m spamming. Where is the line between spamming and posting about your work? I can’t help it. I think I’m addicted to those Amazon rankings! Which is awful because it changes so quickly; dropping like a stone one minute then rising like a phoenix the next. But in posting so much, I have met new people, and my social media is growing, and people are reading Katie Button! People are choosing to spend their pennies reading a book I wrote. I'm blown away by this and actually can't quite believe it.

Oh, and there's a real Katie Button out there! A friend stumbled across her on Instagram. She's a chef in America. Which is rather spooky seeing as Masterchef gets a mention in my novel . . .

People who are finishing the book are now asking for more. I know how they feel. When I finished writing it, I knew I wasn’t finished with the characters. There’s still more of their story to come. But right now, I’m just enjoying sharing their story, making the most of my novel being out there. It was my dream to be published and for people to enjoy Katie Button, and I want to relish every second, spamming or not. :-) xxx
