Monday Mixer! It's back! Yay!!!

I knew my day was coming. I planned it just as I wanted it. But there’s always some family drama erupting around my eldest. What’s he gone and done now? I can’t quite make it out but my Beryl is wagging that finger again. Such a sagacious woman, taking no nonsense from any of them.

A tear trickles down my sallowed cheek as a susurrus of her name escapes my dry lips, hoping it’ll reach her like a gentle kiss on her heavily rouged cheek. She’s sitting proud, ignoring the ennui surrounding her from her own flesh and blood. I wish I could clip my boys right round the ear for their lack of respect; not to me, but their mother.

The stentorian voice of the vicar, belying his doddering frame, makes me jump as it rings in my head; ironic how his words of love are splitting my skull. Sod this for a game of soldiers. As soon as Beryl bids her last, I’m off. Just as long as there’s none of that ululating. My sister’s one for that but she’s keeping it together.

I smile, surveying my life below. Not too bad, Sydney, not too bad at all.

So pleased this flash fiction is back! I loved this. Makes you think and is highly creative. xxx

Monday Mixer Treasure Seekers

The traipse of soldiers finally reached the river where they could rest. Although a long, tiring and challenging day, they were still at full complement which deserved some celebration especially with skirmishes from bandits along the way.
From across the river, snow capped mountains loomed, looking peaceful before the sun dipped behind the tallest jagged peak. Darkness cascaded upon them, leaving most with a feeling of penitence for what tomorrow would hold.
A thunderous roar ripped through the silence, sending half dazed soldiers scrambling for weapons in the thick, pitch of night, bristling with fear now that the bruits were true about what lurked in the mountains.
Sign up, be a soldier they said. See the world! Go on treasure seeking adventures! Well, that was all good and dandy until the roar of the mountains shattered every illusion that stealing dragon eggs was a good idea for a get rich quick scheme.
“Don’t worry, settle down lads,” the stupid, corpulent leader said as the roars died down. “There’s enough riches in those mountains for us all to retire on.”
“I predicate strongly a massacre,” Ronin whispered to himself as he tried to find sleep on his last night on earth.

Monday Mixer Witchcraft

Being accused of witchcraft, the old woman stood before the orotund men, staring at three fat cats judging her; all furs, jewels and bulging waistlines.
“Your comportment has roused suspicion you are a witch,” the largest man boomed, his face beetroot. “Look, there it is again,” he shouted, pointing at the old woman.
“Ah, you mean my tic? That is not witchcraft, that is getting old.”
“You  inveigled the poor farmer to part with his prize cow!”
“I offered to look at his cow but she died so I couldn’t return her,” she shrugged. She knew it sounded terrible but it was true and no one could ever call her a liar, although people had tried. It was the one thing she hated more than anything, more than being called a witch. No one ever called her a liar twice.
“”You are an inveterate liar! Nothing you say can be believed,” he huffed, puffing out his chest. The old woman sighed. It was all going so well until he uttered that word. She clasped the chunky, silver rondure on her finger and began to twist it.
“I always wanted a cat,” she said, “now I have three, come on kitties.”

Monday Mixer An Apple A day

Oh my gosh! That was a challenge and a half!!! I have never taken part in this challenge before but thought, with a bit of time on my hands, why not? Famous last words as it has taken me forever to come up with this little story, using certain selected words that Jeff Hollar over at The Latinum Vault for his Monday Mixer has come up with. So, armed with dictionary and thesaurus and fuelled with determination, I came up with this. All I'm saying is 'it's a start' and remember, a first attempt. So be kind, if not kind then constructive, if not constructive then say nothing and I will get the message and will put this down to an experience on a rainy afternoon. xxx

An Apple A Day

“One bite will cause a somnolent state Sire,” stated the witch, revealing the blood red apple in her long, bony fingers encasing it like a cage.
“Ah, magnificent! Now all the power and wealth will be mine!”
“You are an insular king; the worst kind, Sire,” she declared as she conjured a zephyr that lifted the apple to the King where it nestled in his lap next to his nougat.

“And you are insolent. We had an agreement Witch, unless you wish to burn?” She blenched.  Her kin had suffered the burning, hearing their excruciating screams even now. She knew once he had the apple, he wouldn't let her leave the castle which was why she sparged the apple with ancient magic where upon anything the apple touched, the spell would transfer causing the apple to become harmless. The witch smiled as the king selected a large piece of nougat.

And here is the list of words where you can select one from each and use in any tense as long as makes sense and the meaning hasn't changed. As you can see, I used two from one row. I don't think that classes me as an over- achiever lol. Maybe next time . . . did I say next time? Yeah right!.  xx
