Watch Out, Watch Out, There's a Shoe Thief About!

I have a favourite pair of shoes. They are a pair of Sketchers I bought about five years ago. And after a wash in the washing machine, they are always as good as new, smelling as fresh as a daisy. And I left them over night to dry off, thinking nothing more about it.

Well now one of them is missing! I thought I was going daft and searched everywhere but it definitely wasn't anywhere to be seen. Someone was having a laugh as I imagined I was the victim of a practical joke.

Missing: Have you seen this shoe . .
I accused Hubby and #1Son as the latter was out kicking a ball and the former doesn't like them. But they protested their innocence. And I actually believed them because why would they risk life and limb touching one of my shoes?

But, it turns out,  there is a prime suspect . . . .

Prime Suspect shoe thief
Yes, she may look all cute and innocent, sunbathing  like she owns the garden, but don't let that fool you. Apparently Foxes like to take things, so I have been told by various people. I guess it's the doggy thing they're doing; chewing items to death as they slobber all over it.
I have searched the garden but nothing.  But then . . . . do I really want it back? Hubby thinks this is highly amusing and is in awe that the fox isn't dead from touching the shoe. Cheers! That's really kind of you.

But it's not all bad . . . . . I get the excuse to go shoe shopping for another pair.  Love

Ordinary Girl Friday Night Write Response to The A Team

My first attempt at friday Night Write hosted by sweet banana ink .
  • 1 song:  Ed Sheeran, The A team
  • 500 words
  • 60 hours to complete and post

Ordinary Girl

Kristina sucked on the lolly, loving the coldness on her lips as she sat in the park observing life.   A Frisbee skimmed over but she wasn’t acknowledged by its owner.  A crimson drop fell onto her white dress but Kristina didn’t notice as she continued to stare at the hive of activity, longing to be a part of it.
“Hey, you’d better finish that up.”  A warm smile greeted Kristina as she looked up into the dark, young face of Antonio.  “Your ice, it’s dripping.” Kristina looked down at the growing stain on her dress.
“No harm done.”  She threw the rest of the lolly in a nearby bin and stood. “Shall we walk?”  Antonio nodded and they walked arm in arm through the park. It was good to feel the warmth of another human being. The contact made her feel fizzy as she threw her head back with laughter.
They stopped at a nearby cafe, drinking iced tea.
“Tell me about you.” Kristina purred. “I want to know everything.”
“It’s pretty boring.” Antonio laughed but Kristina just stared, waiting for him to begin. “Well, I’m seventeen, I go to college, learning to drive, I have an older brother, a younger sister, a dog called Indy.” He stopped, eyeing Kristina, wondering if it was enough but there was a hunger in her eyes. “There’s not much more other than the usual stuff.”
“Tell me.”
“Music, sport, Xbox.  Tell me about you.” There was a flinch and her eyes became empty, lonely and distant but she smiled and sipped her iced tea.
“I’m just an ordinary girl.”
“What college do you go to? I haven’t seen you around before.”
“I’m home schooled.” Her reply was confident but there was a hint of something. Antonio couldn’t quite put his finger on it but there was definitely something. A silence followed, drinking more iced tea.  “I want to go somewhere fun. Take me.”  She blurted out, jumping up, her white dress flowing in the breeze.
Her enthusiasm for everything was contagious from the delight of the ducks on the lake to the thrill of the fairground, from the hustle and bustle of the market to the peace and serenity of the museum. It was like he was seeing it for the first time. Then she kissed him; he’d waited for this moment; loved her instantly from the moment he saw her. He felt giddy . . . . .  breathless . . . . .  cold! Pulling away fast, Antonio wiped his mouth. His lips were numb, his finger nails blue. Eyes wide, questioning but he couldn’t speak as he slid down to the floor.
“I don’t want to be alone” she whispered.
“You’ve had your time. Let him be.”  The voice filled the room but Antonio couldn’t see anyone.
“I’m seventeen. How can I have had my time?”
“You made choices that brought you to me. Antonio has more for this earth. Come.”  Antonio watched as a white light consumed her; the red stain the last Antonio saw of his Kristina.

Greed Day 11

Montague sat confidently, enjoying the moment; watching the hesitation on his clients faces as they read the full terms of his contract, knowing they had no choice but to sign. But it wasn’t Montague’s fault that society had created the haves and the have not’s and if it wasn’t him then some other unscrupulous business man would step in. Why not him?  He wasn’t breaking the law; he was offering a service. The young couple picked up the tacky gold plated pen. Montague felt a surge of adrenalin, the pound signs multiplied before him synchronised with the couple’s deepening misery.

Success Day 10 Wop Woop!!

Bit of a cheeky one today . . .

Day 10 Success

Thirty minutes until the deadline passes but still she has nothing. Her mind is blank, her patience wearing thin. With each new idea, she’s flooded with a new found optimism until she discards it along with the others. The hand moves on the clock, nearer and nearer; but nearer to what? Success is way out of reach; failure is closer. The heat rises, she’s flushed with agitation. But then, it’s here, out of nowhere  . . . .  An idea. She works with it, the idea evolves and then . . . success! Finally! The post for day 10 is here!  Phew!

Journey

Day nine Journey

Photograph by Ralph Koch. Do not use without permission.

This is my Hubby’s favourite photo. He calls it ‘My two favourite Ladies.’  This was taken in the Pyrenees on our tour zipping across the French/Spanish border.  It was our first proper holiday together, riding across the mountains; I was navigating and did it pretty well if I say so myself. I can’t read in a car but resting the map on Hubby’s back as we rode was easy.

It was our last holiday for a while as little did we know that another journey had already started; no wonder I felt ill every morning . . .

Relaxing Day 8

Relaxing

A brisk walk on a blustery day along the beach instantly blows away all the niggles and narks as the waves crash destructively onto the beach, whipping up a spray of salty air, coating my skin and tangling my hair. I love the sound of the water rushing back into the sea over shingle. There is nothing like it and words fail me to describe it. But then why not experience it for yourself; feel the power of the sea, lick your lips. Taste it. Do not question how  a dramatic scene can leave you feeling tranquil.
