Five Sentence Fiction- WICKED

What it’s all about: Five Sentence Fiction is about packing a powerful punch in a tiny fist. Each week I will post a one word inspiration, then anyone wishing to participate will write a five sentence story based on the prompt word. The word does not have to appear in your five sentences, just use it for direction. (http://lilliemcferrin.blogspot.co.uk/)
This week: WICKED
Although the sky was pitch black and desolate, the horse galloped confidently through the winding, rugged hills with its rider clinging on, shielding himself in the mane from the swirling wind. His pursuers had dropped back long ago, the sound of hooves and rifles no more; but the rider couldn’t relax until he reached his destination.

The flickering , dimming light in the distance gave off a warm glow of safety and refuge as the rider began to relax and the horse slowed to a casual trot. Patting the horse gently and turning off the warning lantern, the rider walked into the dilapidated building and saw his partner waiting in the darkest corner of the room, a single candle burning lower, the only light. Tipping a small, black velvet pouch onto the table, small, shining stones, belonging to the King, tumbled out as the Highway Man smiled knowingly.

  2. So glad you have joined in the five sentence challenges! I find these are great writing practice and also helpful in starting to explore ideas that might be used in longer pieces. Think you did a great job with setting the scene, really felt the situation - the night and the desperation. I wonder what happened to the King?!

  3. I kind of like my Highway Man too; why do we like those characters that are so villanous and wicked? As for the King? Well if the song is correct 'Stand and deliver, your money or your life', I'm sure he survived his encounter . . .
Thanks for the comments :-). Can't wait for the next challenge. xx

  5. Thank you chick. I like to give a reader questions as it means usually, they want to read on which is awlays good. I mentioned it to someone at work and she wants to see my piece as a posibility to introduce to her class. I think it'll get the creative juices flowing. xx
PS I want to do another one! xx

  6. Enjoyed this. Good contrast between the action of the 'flight', and the 'reveal'
    of his trawl. Thanks.

  7. The atmosphere of this is amazing. For a few moments in time I was no longer surrounded by screaming 8th graders. I was following this night rider and his steady steed. I've always loved the mystery and danger of highway men and you did that romantic ideal a lot of justice. A complete story in five sentences---I'm floored.
